Turn heads with gorgeous grey hair- Mirror Mirror Bexleyheath gives all the facts.

Whether you’re seeing your first few greys or have been rocking a full head of silver for years, Juliana is here to help you understand what’s going on with your hair and how we can keep it looking its absolute best.

Why does hair turn grey?

“First things first, let’s talk about why hair goes grey in the first place,” says Juliana.

It’s all down to the pigment-producing cells in our hair follicles called melanocytes. As we age, these cells gradually produce less pigment.

And it’s not just the colour that changes – grey hair often feels different too. It can become drier, making it feel coarser and more prone to breakage. But don’t worry – there are plenty of ways we can work with these changes.

Let’s help you rock your grey

If you’ve started to go grey, you’ve more options than you might think, advises Juliana. Whether you want to blend those silver strands, cover them completely, or love flaunting them, we can help.

Some clients prefer to blend their grey with highlights or lowlights which can soften the look and make the transition feel a bit more natural.

But remember, says Juliana, if you’re ready to fully embrace your silver, you don’t have to settle for just any shade. ‘Grey’ doesn’t have to mean dull. We can customise the tone of your grey to compliment your skin tone and eye colour, for a more flattering and polished look.

Tips for keeping your grey hair gorgeous

Once you’ve decided how you want to wear your grey, it’s important to keep it looking its best. Here are Juliana’s top tips to help you care for your silver strands:

1. Cover your grey roots temporarily

If you’re not quite ready to let those roots show between salon visits, a root spray can be your new best friend. It’s a quick and easy way to temporarily cover grey roots, giving you a little extra time before your next appointment. Ask your stylist to recommend the best shade for you.Remember to make sure it is all washed out before your hair colour appointment as it can create a barrier for hair dye.

2. Get a good cut

“A great cut is key,” says Juliana. Grey hair can sometimes look a bit more unruly, so keeping it well-shaped and maintained will make all the difference. Whether you prefer a sharp bob or soft layers, the right cut can enhance your natural grey and give you a fresh, contemporary style.

Look at Jamie Lee Curtis who has turned her short, cropped grey hair into a signature look, exuding confidence and style.

3. Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise

“Grey hair tends to be drier and coarser, so moisture is essential,” explains Juliana. Use a good daily conditioner and treat yourself to a deep moisturising mask once a week. “Keeping your hair HYDRATE.ME for a weekly treat.

Condition is crucial. Andie MacDowell’s long, grey curls are soft and shiny, showing grey can be just as glamorous as any other colour. “It’s all about finding the right look and shade for you and owning it,” adds Juliana.

4. Use a violet toning shampoo

To keep your grey looking vibrant, try using a violet toning shampoo such as BLONDE ANGEL. It’s brilliant for neutralising any unwanted yellow or dull tones, keeping your silver strands bright and clear.

5. Protect grey hair from the sun

Just like your skin, your hair needs protection from the sun too. UV rays can cause damage and lead to yellowing or brassiness in grey hair. “Always use a SPF like EVERLASTING.LEAVE-IN and wearing a hat on sunny days can really help,” recommends Juliana.

6. Be careful with hot tools

Heat can be tough on grey hair, so it’s important to turn down the temperature when using styling tools.

Air dry when you can and always use a strong heat protectant before styling to prevent damage and keep your hair healthy. Ask your stylist for their recommendation for your hair.

7. Sleep on a satin or silk pillowcase

A satin or silk pillowcase is a small change that can make a big difference. These materials create less friction than cotton, protecting more fragile grey hair from breakage, frizz and fly-aways while you sleep.
